100 Subs!
Ok, so it’s been 23 days since I started this publication. I set a goal of 100 subs in 60 days. I am happy to report that we have crushed that goal. So before I get into anything else, I want to say Thank You! If you are receiving this in your inbox, you made this happen. Thank you. Here’s some more Craig Morey photography before we get into the sub mood.

Special shoutout to two established, and phenomenal writers (
& ) here on Substack who re-stacked The Hang Coefficient and got me a lot of traffic. You should check out their publications which I have listed and linked below:Recap
I launched the publication on April 14, 2025. I published my first real piece, Noticing Your Loins on April 19. Shortly thereafter I published Nietzsche Suffered From Extreme Pelvic Floor Dysfunction, a companion piece.
Thereafter, I published Boomer Hormonal Supremacy. But on April 26th, I published my first piece that actually attracted some attention:
Since then it’s been:
Heres The Growth Chart
You are in there somewhere. Thank you to everyone who liked, re-stacked, and subscribed these past 23 days.
How about we try some interaction? Apparently you can do polls in Substack. Cool.
POLL — How did you find me?
What I’ve Learned
Thoughtful replies to peoples articles and/or notes go a long way. If you contribute something of substance, people will often check out your profile as a result.
DMing a bit can’t hurt. Don’t go overboard, but if you know a few bigger accounts who might be into what you put out there, might help them see it.
Make it a habit to scroll the feed for ten minutes after you hit publish, look for a note that might be somewhat tangential to what you just published and try to work a link into the bottom of your thoughtful reply. Don’t be obnoxious but don’t be too timid either.
In my opinion, Taylor is the best audio narration voice. You can change it in the Dashboard settings.
If you are on 𝕏, it probably can’t hurt to crosspost on there. If you setup a custom domain, the preview image won’t be blocked.
Setup a draft in your drafts called TEMPLATE. Refine the footer subscribe copy to what you want it to be (To The Cypress Tree is a new publication…) and when you want to start a new draft, just duplicate this so it’s already in there, it seems like you can’t copy “buttons” like this.
Re-stack work that you like from others. They will notice and appreciate it. Might come in handy someday.
That’s all from me today. Once again, thank you. Don’t forget to smash the like or re-stack button when you read something you like, it helps others to see. Lots more writing coming in the future very soon. I’m just relaxing a bit for a few days and trying to catch up on some non-substack work.
Thanks for reading and subscribing.
